They had killed a big elephant and wanted to share with us. We started a fire to cook the meat and they were very afraid of it. I don't think they had seen a 2 footed being start a fire before. We had seen one start spontaneously before during a dry season with some lightning coming from the sky. It was very loud and it burned all the dry grass. Maybe they had experienced something similar previously?
One of the younger males seemed to like Karmen. She talked to him and taught him some words. He was able to repeat some of the words but had problems with others. He called her Kaah-maahn. Karmen asked if he had a name and he didn't understand. She put her hand on her chest and said Karmen. She then pointed to him and he understood. He didn't have a name but made a noise his parents did when they called him. It sounded like "goooh-boh-boh" so she called him Gobi. They were fast friends after that.
After a few days of being around the giants we decided to head away and separate ourselves from them. We hugged them all and tried to thank them the best we could. When Karmen went to hug Gobi he cried. He seemed to beg his parents because he wanted to go with Karmen. His parents cried but understood. They cried a while then gathered some foodstuffs to give us. It was potatoes, some apples and walnuts in a hard shell. They showed us how to take a rock and break the shell and eat the meat-like insides.
A few days travel later we found an apple tree and a walnut tree near a big lake of water. We washed ourselves and the children and set up camp.
Author commentary: I came across an interesting article that may prove scientifically that we evolved from a genealogical Adam and Eve. Read the article here: https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2019/10/04/upcoming-book-leaves-scientific-possibility-existence-adam-eve-column/3826195002/
